Operation Oswego County Earns "Branding of Economic Development Organizations Award" for OOC Website

The Northeastern Economic Developers Association (NEDA) held their annual conference on September 11th – 13th at the Omni Hotel at Yale in New Haven, CT. NEDA represents 11 states including Connecticut, Delaware, Maine, Massachusetts, Maryland, New Hampshire, New Jersey, New York, Pennsylvania, Rhode Island and Vermont. Each year NEDA recognizes outstanding achievements in the field of economic development by way of their annual Best Practice and Marketing Awards. This year, NEDA presented the Branding of Economic Development Organizations Award to Operation Oswego County (OOC) for their website.

The recognitions are awarded each year to economic development organizations throughout the northeastern United States who produce printed and web-based materials to promote economic development in their areas.

The OOC Website was redeveloped and the new site was launched in April 2015. The OOC website is the hub of our marketing efforts. All of our other marketing drives potential clients to our website, which provides them with a comprehensive overview of how we can help them establish or grow their business in Oswego County. The website was created with the assistance of an Economic Development grant from National Grid.

OOC also received the Outstanding Marketing of Economic Development Topics Award for the Upstate Energy Jobs Video which illustrates what closing a nuclear power plant looks like. The video was created during the initial formation of the Upstate Energy Jobs Coalition, a group of over 160 Upstate New York elected officials, business leaders, members of organized labor, economic development organizations and community leaders. The video was created by Eric Mower & Associates with assistance from the County of Oswego IDA.

OOC has won several awards in past years for the quality and professionalism of its promotional materials from NEDA and other regional, state and national economic development organizations. Entries are judged by a panel of experienced economic development and marketing professionals and are determined based on the unique and trend-setting use of economic development tools and concepts, overall creativity and branding effectiveness, clarity of message, and the organization and presentation of information and data quality.

L. Michael Treadwell, Executive Director of OOC, noted that, "this type of recognition clearly demonstrates that OOC is on target in developing quality marketing and public relations products to promote the assets of Oswego County to businesses."

"I want to commend the efforts of OOC's Marketing and Development Committee chaired by Barbara Bateman, on helping us stay in the forefront. Also, I want to thank our staff, and in particular, Evelyn LiVoti, marketing and development manager, for coordinating the development of our marketing strategies which are integral and essential to a county-wide comprehensive economic development program."
