Dorothy Biggs to Speak at “Connections”

Dorothy Biggs, ViegaOn Tuesday, October 27, Women's Network for Entrepreneurial Training (WNET) and SUNY Oswego's Office of Business and Community Relations (OBCR), will gather women from across New York State for Connections, a day-long conference to be held at the Lake Ontario Event and Conference Center in Oswego from 8:00 a.m. to 4:00 p.m.

This day-long symposium is something you won't want to miss. Women employees and business owners need inspiration, ideas, information, and other women to network with. The theme for this year's event is “Achieve — Inspire — Embrace Excellence” and will feature several dynamic speakers, networking opportunities, continental breakfast, lunch, and a dessert reception. Following lunch, our speakers will participate in a panel Q&A.

Dorothy Biggs, district sales manager for Viega, an international manufacturer of Plumbing and Heating solutions, will present "Paving the Way in a Non-traditional Field" As a woman, finding acceptance and success in a traditionally male dominant field can prove to be much more challenging than a field with more gender neutrality. As a former business owner for over 20 years, and now a District Sales Manager who has continuously exceeded goal expectations, Dorothy Biggs has paved the way for women in the plumbing and heating industry, a workforce typically reserved for men.

Through hard work and perseverance, she has forged a path and has come out on top. Hear about her trials and tribulations, as well as her success stories. Learn tips and tricks to carefully climb to the top of a male dominated field, while earning respect and equality along the way.

Again this year, headshots will be offered by Dayger Photography, with no sitting fee. Free hair and make-up touch-ups will also be available.

Also returning this year is Bee-Hive Networking, a business building activity that allows you to find exactly what you are looking for in a very short period of time. There are no elevator speeches, no selling, and no fears or discomforts. Each attendee could walk away with an average of 12-20 cards of QUALIFIED prospects who want to meet them. Come "catch the buzz" with Bee-Hive Networking. Please be sure to come armed with 100 business cards.

"Moving Women to Power" is not only the Connections tagline, it's also the number one goal of every Connections conference. That is why Connections has created the "Woman of Power" award. This award will recognize a woman whose civic and community service goes beyond "normal" responsibilities, creating a lasting and beneficial impact on the community. Join us to meet the first "Woman of Power" award recipient!

Sponsors to date include SUNY Oswego's Office of Business and Community Relations, Women's Network for Entrepreneurial Training (WNET), Operation Oswego County, Lake Ontario Event and Conference Center and Mitchell's Speedway Press.
