Treadwell to Receive NEDA Lifetime Achievement Award
The Northeastern Economic Developers Association (NEDA), which represents 11 states including Connecticut, Delaware, Maine, Massachusetts, Maryland, New Hampshire, New Jersey, New York, Pennsylvania, Rhode Island and Vermont, will be holding their annual conference on September 13th – 15th at the Crowne Plaza Hotel Downtown in Syracuse, NY. Each year NEDA recognizes outstanding achievements in the field of economic development by way of their annual Best Practice and Marketing Awards. During the annual conference awards dinner on September 14th, NEDA will present L. Michael Treadwell, executive director of Operation Oswego County, with the NEDA Lifetime Achievement Award.
Treadwell has been the executive director of Operation Oswego County, Inc., a not-for-profit economic development corporation and the chief executive officer of the County of Oswego Industrial Development Agency, both serving Oswego County, since 1983. Among numerous awards for his achievements, Treadwell has received the Exceptional Commitment Award from the Greater Oswego Chamber of Commerce in 1996, the Certified Economic Developer (CEcD) designation from the International Economic Development Council in 1996, the Financial Service Champion Award from the U.S. SBA Syracuse District in 2005, the Economic Developer of the Year for New York State from the New York State Economic Development Council in 2004 and the Community Leadership Award from Leadership Oswego County in 2010.
During the 32 plus years in economic development in Oswego County, Treadwell has helped to stimulate over $4 billion in investments that resulted in the creation and retention of over 22,800 jobs.
Presently, Treadwell is active on boards and with organizations that impact the Oswego County and Central New York economies including: Oswego County Workforce Development Board, New York State Economic Development Council, Northwestern Economic Developers Association, International Economic Development Council, Central New York Regional Planning & Development Board, Central New York Regional Economic Development Council, National Association of Development Companies, U.S. Department of Agriculture-Rural Development, U.S. Small Business Administration, CenterState Center for Economic Opportunity, SUNY Oswego Start-Up NY advisory council, Cayuga Community College Foundation, National Business Incubator Association and Council of Development Finance Agencies.
