April 17, 2009: Oswego County Announces
Ambassador Program
Do you like to travel? Would you like to be able to better promote
our area’s many assets when someone asks you “where
are you from?”
The Oswego County Legislature and several
community organizations have joined together to sponsor the “Oswego
County Ambassador” program, a series of informal meetings
to share information about Oswego County’s business opportunities,
tourism and recreational attractions, and agricultural industries.
The workshops will be:
-
Thursday, April 30, 6 p.m., Tavern on
the Lock Restaurant, 24 S. First St., Fulton;
-
Thursday, May 21, 2 p.m., Riverside
Banquet Room, Oswego EconoLodge, 70 E. First St., Oswego;
-
Tuesday, June 2, 7 p.m. Ambassador Program;
R.J.’s Irish Wigwam, Wigwam Drive, Sandy Pond; and
-
Tuesday, June 9, 6 p.m., Castaways Restaurant,
916 Co. Rte. 37, Brewerton.
County Legislator Louella LeClair, District
25, Fulton, proposed the idea last fall at a meeting of the County
Legislature’s Tourism Advisory Council. LeClair, who is vice
chairwoman of the Legislature’s Economic Development and Planning
Committee, suggested that county residents could help to generate
business and promote the county if they were more aware of the county’s
economic development incentives and marketing programs.
“The goal of the Oswego County Ambassador
program is to make people familiar with what Oswego County has to
offer, so they can promote our area to others when they travel,”
said Legislator LeClair. “We have many business opportunities
and activities that our own residents are not aware of. Oswego County
is a great place to work and live! This program will empower our
citizens to proudly share information when they’re asked ‘where
are you from?’”
All participants will be entered into drawings
for door prizes, including a $500 non-transferable travel voucher
donated by Canalview Travel in Fulton and a gift certificate from
Abbott’s Lake Country Studio in Central Square. Meetings are
free and open to the public. Light refreshments will be served.
Speakers include L. Michael Treadwell, director
of Operation Oswego County, Inc., the county’s economic development
agency; Paul A. Forestiere II, executive director of Cornell Cooperative
Extension of Oswego County, Inc., and Janet Clerkin, Tourism and
Public Information Coordinator, County Department of Community Development,
Tourism and Planning.
The Oswego County Ambassador Program is sponsored
by the Oswego County Legislature, Canalview Travel, Abbott’s
