Explores Women’s Place in the Arts, Business and Science
OSWEGO, NY—On Thursday,
Oct. 25, SUNY Oswego’s Office of Business and Community Relations
(OBCR) hosted Connections, a day-long conference designed to bring
women of all ages and backgrounds together to explore their entrepreneurial
place and power in the arts, business and various fields of health
and science.
Key note speaker for the event was Joni Daniels,
a SUNY Oswego alumna, consultant, trainer, and entrepreneur. Daniels
is the author of “Power Tools for Women®: Plugging Into
the Essential Skills for Work and Life.” Through her company,
Daniels and Associates, Daniels provides presentations related to
personal and professional development and has addressed a wide variety
of audiences at national conventions, management retreats and regional
conferences for clients such as Meeting Professionals International,
The Wharton School, Marriott International, the American Camping
Association, Merck and Company, the National Management Association,
UNISYS Corporation the Department of Defense, Lockheed Martin and
the United Way. She has served as a resource for the Microsoft Small
Business Regional Web Page, the Philadelphia Inquirer, The Baltimore
Business Journal, Family Circle Magazine, The CEO Refresher, GLAMOUR
Magazine, KYW Newsradio, and the Wall Street Journal. She has appeared
on Sunday Live (ABC/WPVI), It's Your Call (CN8), and Channel 10
News at 10 (NBC/KYW). In addition, Daniels has contributed several
articles to Executive Update, Employment Relations Today, US Industry
Today, The Management Advantage, CityBizList.com, Making Bread Magazine,
and Workforce Online and she is frequently quoted on management
topics in a variety of other publications.
Also featured on the agenda were SUNY Oswego
alumna Julia Devillers, author of books such as “The Dorm
Survival Guide” that empower teen and “tween”
girls, Carrie Lazarus of News Channel 9’s “Carrie’s
Family Healthcast,” which was one of the nation’s first
daily health news segments on television and financial advisor Cynthia
Scott, Founder and President of OMC Financial Services, Ltd.
The event also featured several vendors promoting
products and services for women.
