March 23, 2007: “Spotlight on Our Economy” Monthly Column for The Palladium-Times
By L. Michael Treadwell, CEcD, Executive Director of Operation Oswego County

Local Businesses, Community Members Support Economic Development

During 2006, Operation Oswego County (OOC) helped to provide financial assistance for projects that will invest over $336 million in Oswego County, and will create and/or retain over 1,000 jobs. This success would not have been possible without the partnership of the business sector through our annual fund drive campaign.
Each year, OOC asks local business to invest in the future of Oswego County and help us continue to provide critical economic development services to our community by contributing to the fund drive. The annual appeal to business and industry supporters and others throughout the county for financial support has provided OOC with supplemental promotional funding in recent years.

I commend the efforts of OOC’s Marketing and Development Committee members who plan and implement the fund drive each year. Those members include Chairman Michael Pollock, Fulton Savings Bank; Vice Chairman Bonnie Bostian, Entergy Nuclear Northeast; Ron Darrow; Kerry Dorsey, SUNY Oswego; Joseph Russo, National Grid; Joseph Solazzo, Laborer’s International Union, Local 214; Corte Spencer; Steven Thomas, Thomas-Gatas, Inc.; Gary Toth, Carpenter's Local 747; and David Turner, Oswego County Department of Community Development, Tourism and Planning.

I would like to sincerely thank the following businesses and individuals, as their contributions to the 2006 fund drive will directly impact economic growth in Oswego County this year.
Once again, Novelis provided the top economic development “booster” for the fund drive, with a contribution of $10,000.
