| Jan. 20, 2007: New
Athletic Center Opens in Town of Hastings
Hazen’s Athletic Center, a new 6,400-square-foot indoor sports
facility tailored for girl’s fast pitch softball training,
celebrated its grand opening Saturday, Jan. 20 at its location in
the Rich Corporate Park in the town of Hastings.
The facility features professional instructors who will offer classes
and private lessons. The facility will also have open time so softball
and baseball players can use the facility to utilize three batting
cages and other specialized training equipment. All athletes will
be able to register for classes such as recruiting preparation and
college placement, sport nutrition, time management skills and sport
psychology.
Owner Heidi Hazen-Forte has extensive experience in the field.
She is the former head softball coach for Colgate University, the
founder and director of the Syracuse Fastpitch League, the women’s
commissioner of the New York State Amateur Softball Association,
and director of the Eastern and Western Syracuse Fastpitch Leagues.
In addition, she has been a college search consultant for College
Decision Systems and helps local high school guidance counselors
with college placement for student athletes.
Prior to purchasing property in the Rich Corporate Park, which
in addition to the new facility, includes a 2,600-square-foot building
and outdoor field space, Hazen-Forte leased space in Cicero for
her business which she started in 1993.
“My business was steadily growing, so I felt that it was
time to move forward by investing in my own property. It’s
a dream-come-true to have my own facility,” Hazen-Forte said.
“I chose this location because it’s very convenient
for my clientele and my family and I live in Central Square.”
The project is expected to create eight jobs and received funding
assistance from the County of Oswego Industrial Development Agency
(IDA), a Small Business Administration 504 loan through Operation
Oswego County (OOC) and HSBC Bank.
“Hazen’s Athletic Center brings a unique business venture
to the Central Square area and Oswego County. Heidi’s skills
and experience as an instructor will truly benefit youth who want
to develop their softball skills in order to prepare them for successful
college recruitment,” said L. Michael Treadwell, CEcD, executive
director of OOC, a private, non-profit organization working to enhance
and protect the economic climate of Oswego County.
“OOC and the IDA were pleased to provide assistance for this
project and we look forward to their continued growth and success
in Oswego County.”
