Oswego County
Small Business Training Classes to Begin in May
For those interested in expanding
or starting a new small business in Oswego County, another series
of Micro-Enterprise Training Program classes are scheduled to
begin in May.
The program is coordinated by the City of Fulton Community Development
Agency (CDA), City of Oswego Community Development Office (CDO),
SUNY Oswego Small Business Development Center (SBDC) and Operation
Oswego County (OOC) to provide guidance and support to people interested
in starting or expanding a small business.
The program provides a 21-hour small-business
training program that covers such topics as how to write a business
plan, how to obtain financing, accounting and tax issues, business
insurance, legalities, marketing, and other basic business start-up
issues. Classroom
training is provided by SBDC small business advisors Bernadette
Mroz, Larry Perras and John Halleron as well as area business professionals.
Graduates of the program are eligible to apply for up to $25,000
in low-interest financing to expand or start their business in
Oswego County.
Tuition for the program is $165 and includes all materials. Scholarships
are available for households within low to moderate income guidelines
as established by U.S. Department of Housing and Urban Development.
The 2006 Micro-Enterprise training schedule is as follows:
- Tuesday, May 16 through Tuesday,
May 23 (one-week class), Tuesday through Friday, 6-9 p.m. and
Saturday, 8 a.m. to noon at the VFW Building, 1560 State Route
49, Constantia. To

- Monday, June 19 through Saturday,
June 24 (one-week class), Monday through Friday, 6-9 p.m. and
Saturday, 8 a.m. to 1 p.m., Oswego Falls Business Center, 163
South First St., Fulton. To

- Tuesday, Sept. 19 through Tuesday,
Oct. 31 (consecutive Tuesdays) 6-9 p.m., Center for Entrepreneurs,
SUNY Oswego, 118 B Rich Hall, Oswego. To register, call

In other economic development news:
- The Captain’s Steak
and Seafood Restaurant located
in the city of Oswego will be remodeled and a 420 square-foot
addition will be made to the facility. The project will
create 11 jobs and will receive funding assistance from the County
of Oswego Industrial Development Agency (IDA) and the Oswego
CDO; and
- The Club at Caughdenoy Creek,
located in the town of Hastings, acquired the former Caughdenoy
Creek County Club and will operate an 18-hole golf course,
clubhouse, and will extend restaurant operations to a year-round
facility. The
$1.3 million project will create and/or retain 14 jobs and will
receive funding assistance from the IDA, an SBA 504 loan through
OOC, and HSBC.
