March 22, 2006: Personal Motivation Strategies Topic at April WNET Meeting

Paula Behm, professional development specialist at SUNY Oswego Institute for Professional and Organizational Development, will present " Personal Motivation Strategies for Promoting Your Business" at the next Women’s Network for Entrepreneurial Training (WNET) monthly breakfast meeting Thursday, April 6, 8 a.m. at the SUNY Oswego Institute for Professional and Organizational Development in the Oswego County Industrial Park, Phoenix (exit 14, state Route 481).  Aunt Mary’s Italian Cookies and Catering will provide breakfast.

As a professional development specialist, Behm’s primary role is to partner with business, government, and non-profit organizations to assist employers in identifying employee training needs, develop customized training programs, and to promote the Institute’s ongoing professional development courses.

Her areas of expertise are derived from her 13 years of work experience in academic and human resource settings where she designed and delivered marketing campaigns, implemented continuing education training programs, and provided human resources consulting and career coaching services.  Her academic credentials include an undergraduate degree in human resource management with a focus in adult training and development from SUNY Empire State College, a master’s degree in professional education from Le Moyne College, and certification as a job and career transition coach.  She is the current president-elect for the CNY American Society of Training and Development.

Self-talk and self-imagery are two of the personal motivation strategies Behm will share during an interactive session designed to assist participants in increasing their self-confidence when verbally promoting their businesses.

The remainder of the WNET spring schedule is as follows:

  • May 4:  “Building a Brand for Your Small Business” by Shane Stepien, owner of Step One Creative; and
  • June 1:  “Cyber Safety” by Ed Schaperjahn, owner of HELP! Small Business Solutions.

The meeting is open to the public.  A registration fee of $10 for members and $12 for non-members covers the cost of the program and a full breakfast.  WNET annual membership is $10.  Contact Operation Oswego County at 343-1545 to reserve your seat.

WNET is part of a nationwide roundtable for women business owners, sponsored by the U.S. Small Business Administration (SBA).  Through networking, presentations and information sharing, WNET provides professional development and personal growth for women business owners.
