Series to Feature Strategic Planning Seminars March 28
OSWEGO, NY-- Kelly Sullivan
and Marcene Sonneborn will host seminars about strategic planning
for small businesses as part of the SUNY Oswego Center for Business
and Community Development’s “Growth Through Effective
Leadership,” an Allstate Business Management Series. The
series will convene weekly, each Tuesday, from March 21 until April
18. All sessions will be held from 6-9 p.m. in Rich Hall, room
118-A, on the SUNY Oswego campus.
The series is a collaborative effort between
the CBCD and experienced professionals from diverse backgrounds,
and is geared toward entrepreneurs who have been in business for
at least two years and are interested in growing their business. Session
topics will include personal and professional skill building, team
building, leadership visioning and practice, ethical leadership
and financial and economic literacy.
On Tuesday, March 28, Sullivan, founder
and director of The Center for Systems Thinking & Innovation
(CSTI) will present “Business Visioning” from 6 to
7 p.m. as part of the second session of the series. Sullivan
has more than 15 years of training and human resources management
experience and her company serves as a resource to manufacturers,
universities, service sector businesses and non-profit organizations. She
is a certified Myers-Briggs Type Indicator® facilitator, a
member of the Society for Human Resource Management, and serves
on the executive board of the Greater Oswego Chamber of Commerce
(GOCC). Sullivan also works with new businesses through the
Small Business Administration and Micro-Enterprise program to provide
them with strategic planning assistance. CSTI was selected
as the GOCC’s 1999 “Home-Based Business of the Year.”
Following Sullivan’s presentation,
Sonneborn, President of Innovation Management Consulting, Inc.,
will present a seminar on strategic planning for small businesses. Sonneborn
is a business development and management consultant, working in
the areas of strategic planning, futuring, marketing and finance.
She provides business development assistance to clients for new
concepts, programs, products, and marketing approaches. She
assists technology-based entrepreneurial businesses with research
and development, venture financial planning, technology transfer
and commercialization, organizational planning, team development,
and strategic partnering. An adjunct professor of entrepreneurship
for Syracuse University’s Whitman School of Management, Sonneborn
also runs the Ideation Lab for the Entrepreneurship Department
CIE Learning Community. She has published articles in journals
for technology management and funding of high risk technology start-ups,
and has written a chapter on marketing of financial services for
a management textbook published in Eastern Europe. She also
has been a participant lecturer/advisor on a Syracuse University
management team for management training programs in Eastern Europe
for the US Information Agency, sponsored by U.S. embassies and
consulates in Poland, Yugoslavia, Bosnia and Croatia.
Other series presenters will include; William
Hoosty, president of WRH Consulting Group; Peter Connell, training
and human resource development consultant; Alex Grimshaw, CEO of
PPS International; Larry Perras, small business development advisor
with the Small Business Development Center at the CBCD; and Fred
Thomas, vice president and senior portfolio manager for HSBC Bank.
