Feb. 13, 2006: Human Resource Management Consultants Kick Off Business Series March 21

OSWEGO, NY-- William Hoosty and Peter Connell will host seminars about human resource management as part of the SUNY Oswego Center for Business and Community Development’s “Growth Through Effective Leadership,” an Allstate Business Management Series. The series will convene weekly, each Tuesday, from March 21 until April 18. All sessions will be held from 6-9 p.m. in Rich Hall, room 118-A, on the SUNY Oswego campus.

The series is a collaborative effort between the CBCD and experienced professionals from diverse backgrounds, and is geared toward entrepreneurs who have been in business for at least two years and are interested in growing their business.  Session topics will include personal and professional skill building, team building, leadership visioning and practice, ethical leadership and financial and economic literacy.

During the first session of the series, on Tuesday, March 21, William Hoosty will present “Managerial Attitude” from 6 to 7 p.m., and “Team Development and Management” from 7 to 8 p.m.  Hoosty, president of WRH Consulting Group, has extensive background and work experience in the fields of education, transportation and consulting.  He is a certified special education teacher and elementary teacher in both Pennsylvania and New York.  He also holds certification as a school administrator and supervisor in New York.  Hoosty’s work experience includes classroom teacher, industrial trainer, administrator, project manager, staff development specialist, consultant, adjunct college instructor and motivational speaker. 

Following Hoosty’s presentations, Peter Connell will present a seminar on communication style in human resource management from 8 to 9 p.m..  Connell is an affiliate consultant with Robert Burns Training and an independent training and human resource development consultant.  He has also worked as a corporate trainer for the manufacturing industry and was responsible for meeting the training needs of over 200 employees. In addition, he worked in the not-for-profit and healthcare arenas and was responsible for meeting and supervising the training, coaching and executive development needs of approximately 600 employees. Connell is a member of the Central New York chapter of the American Society of Training and Development

Other series presenters will include Kelly Sullivan, founder of The Center for System Thinking and Innovation; Marcene Sonneborn, business development and management consultant; Alex Grimshaw, CEO of PPS International; Larry Perras, small business development advisor with the Small Business Development Center at the CBCD; and Fred Thomas, vice president and senior portfolio manager for HSBC Bank.

  • Team Development and Management: William Hoosty, 7-8 p.m.; and
  • Communication Style: Peter Connell, 8-9 p.m.

Tuesday, March 28:

  • Business Visioning: Kelly Sullivan, 6-7 p.m.; and
  • Strategic Planning:  Marcene Sonneborn, 7-9 p.m.

Tuesday, April 4:

  • Ethics Workshop: Alex Grimshaw, 6-9 p.m.

Tuesday, April 11:

  • Entrepreneurial Spirit: Larry Perras, 6-7 p.m.;
  • Leadership Practice: business panel, 7-8:30 p.m.; and
  • Trade Associations: speaker to be determined, 8:30-9 p.m.

Tuesday, April 18:

  • Survey of Economic Issues: Fred Thomas, 6-7:30 p.m.; and
  • Guest Speaker: Allstate representative, 7:30-9 p.m.
