Affordable Rental Space Available
at Business Incubators
If you are looking for affordable rental
space for your new or expanding non-retail, industrial and service
business, you need not look further than Operation Oswego County’s
two small business incubator facilities located in Oswego and Phoenix.
Both buildings have space available for lease starting at $4.50
per square foot.
The Start-up Facility (SUF) in the Oswego
County Industrial Park off 481, exit 14 in Phoenix and the Oswego
County Business Expansion Center (BEC) in the city of Oswego are
designed to help businesses achieve significant growth and development
during the first few years of business with the intention of eventually
moving out of the building and into private commercial space.
The SUF currently has approximately 5,000
square feet of available industrial and office space including two
overhead doors, and is located immediately off state Route 481,
exit 14. My Pet Enterprises, provider of My Doggy™ and My
Kitty™ products for pets, currently utilizes about 5,000 square
feet. The company produces its signature product, the My Doggy™
Bite, an all natural, gourmet cookie for dogs, at the SUF.
The BEC, located on East Seneca Street in
Oswego, is ideal for hi-tech and IT businesses as it is wired for
computer and telephone network capabilities including 16 offices
and three manufacturing spaces. The wiring installation is designed
to support 1,000 MBPS (gigabit) in the future if needed. The building
consists of about 10,000 square feet of office space and 9,000 square
feet of factory space and a receiving dock. There is currently approximately
10,000 square feet of space available for lease.
The BEC was established by OOC as an integral
part of the Oswego Empire Zone program and potential tenants may
benefit from various EZ incentives if eligible.
If you’re interested in leasing space
in the SUF or the BEC, call my office at 343-1545. Information about
our incubator facilities is also available at www.oswegocounty.org/incubators.html.
In other economic development news, The U.S.
Small Business Administration recognized Trapasso Tire and Auto
of Fulton with a Business Excellence Award at the 7th Annual Small
Business Excellence Awards luncheon and ceremony in Syracuse last
week. OOC and the SUNY Oswego Small Business Development Center
nominated Trapasso Tire and Auto, a New York State-licensed automotive
repair facility, inspection station, and auto dealer for their continuing
commitment to provide quality service at reasonable prices. Owner
Tim Trapasso purchased Leotta Motors in Fulton four years ago and
re-opened as Trapasso Tire and Auto Service with the help of a SBA
504 loan through OOC.
Also recognized at the ceremony was Matthew
Dawson, owner of MyDigitalDiscount.com who received the SBA Syracuse
District’s “Young Entrepreneur of the Year” award.
MyDigitalDiscount.com’s success is an excellent example of
the incubator facilities operating the way they are designed to.
After graduating from the Micro-Enterprise training program, Dawson
began leasing space in the BEC and expanded within the building
a year later. After significantly expanding its product line of
computer accessories and electronic equipment, the company recently
graduated from the BEC and purchased the former 9,900 square foot
Dubois Inn building on state Route 48 in Minetto. MyDigitalDiscount.com
now employs five full-time employees.
