Sept. 1, 2004: Second Round of “Cool Factors” Focus Groups Set for September

OSWEGO, NY-- The Oswego County Workforce Development Board (WDB) and Operation Oswego County (OOC), in conjunction with Next Generation Consulting of Madison, Wis., are conducting a second round of focus groups to identify strategies or “cool factors” to attract and retain young, talented employees throughout Oswego County.

“This is your chance as a young professional to make an impact on the future of Oswego County and its workforce by attending one of our short, pain-free focus groups. Don’t miss this opportunity to have a voice and make a difference,” said Nancy Bellow, WDB director. “Even if all you want to do is “vent” about the way you wish things were in our community, please plan to attend.”

Bellow explained that participants must be between 23 and 43 years old. The focus groups will gauge participants’ ideas on what makes Oswego County competitive and will be designed to mirror the diversity of Oswego County's population, geographical locations and workforce. The groups will also represent those who are educated (post-high school training and/or degrees) and mid-careerists.

The focus groups will be held:

  • Wednesday, Sept. 15, 8 a.m., at the Pulaski Ponderosa, state Route 13. Parking will be available and breakfast will be served; and
  • Wednesday, Sept. 15, noon, at Bank of America (formerly Fleet Bank), corner of state Routes 49 & 11 in Central Square. Parking will be available and lunch will be served.

“This joint initiative between the WDB and its focus on human capital, and OOC with its focus on economic development, is a proactive and aggressive step toward identifying, assessing and developing strategies to enhance our capacity to meet the human resource needs of current and future employers in the county,” said L. Michael Treadwell, CEcD, OOC executive director.

For more information about the focus groups or to register, call the WDB at SUNY Oswego’s Center for Business and Community Development at 312-3492 or e-mail holynski@oswego.edu.
