Aug. 4, 2004: Sure-Lock Industries
to Expand, Relocate to Oswego
OSWEGO, NY—Sure-Lock
Industries, LLC of Red Creek will relocate its business to a 60,000
square foot building within the Oswego Warehousing compound on East
Seneca Street in the city of Oswego. The company manufactures pre-finished
hardwood flooring, custom hardwood finishing and specialized millwork
for several distributors throughout the Northeast and to various
commercial retailers.
Sure-Lock Industries was established in 1995
as a producer of pre-finished engineered hardwood flooring and currently
holds a U.S. patent on their engineered hardwood flooring products.
As a result of recent agreements reached
with new distributors and manufacturers of hardwood flooring throughout
the United States, Sure-Lock will also expand and upgrade its manufacturing
capabilities to include two new lines: high-tech floor finishing
and specialized mill work.
“Our facility in Red Creek is no longer
effective in meeting the manufacturing demands of our growing list
of customers,” said founder and co-owner Art Brown. “Based
on our current contracts and continuing negotiations, our sales
are expected to more than double by 2005.”
The $1.4 million project will receive financial
assistance from the County of Oswego Industrial Development Agency.
Other partners who will help finance the new manufacturer include
the City of Oswego Community Development Office; a New York State
Senate grant secured by Sen. James Wright, 48th District, Watertown;
HSBC; Niagara Mohawk; and the Central New York Regional Planning
and Development Board. The project will be located in the Oswego
Empire Zone.
“The relocation and planned expansion
of Sure-Lock Industries at the Oswego Warehousing compound is a
welcome addition to the local business community. I am pleased to
have been able to work with company and local officials to secure
a Senate grant to assist with the relocation,” said Sen. Wright.
“The unique and high-quality product created by this company
has allowed Sure-Lock to develop a strong reputation of excellence
since its establishment in 1995. We are pleased that the Oswego
community will help expand that reputation while meeting the needs
of Sure-Lock’s growing number of customers.”
“Sure-Lock will be the only manufacturer
of its type utilizing the most advanced technology available in
custom hardwood finishing in the Northeast. This manufacturer’s
established success and solid forthcoming business plans will help
to ensure its future growth and prosperity making it a significant
addition to Oswego County’s economy,” said L. Michael
Treadwell, CEcD, executive director of Operation Oswego County (OOC).
"I am pleased that Sure-Lock Industries
has decided to move its manufacturing facility to Oswego. It is
my understanding that this relocation will provide the basis for
future growth of their business," said Assemblyman Will Barclay,
124th District. "I also commend the Oswego County economic
development team for their diligent work in accommodating Sure-Lock's
relocation."
The new facility will be fully operational
by the fall. The project is expected to create 16 jobs initially
and eight additional jobs within the first year.
“We anticipate that we will begin to
operate a second shift for the development of a second finishing
line within a year following the commencement of operations at our
new facility,” Brown said.
“New manufacturing facilities and the
new jobs they create are a scarce commodity these days, so I very
much appreciate the fact that Sure-Lock has chosen to make Oswego
not only their new manufacturing home, but also the site for their
new corporate office,” City of Oswego Mayor John Gosek said.
“I look forward to working with them and their counterparts
at Great Lakes Veneer in making Oswego the manufacturing center
for upscale wood product related industries.”
Oswego County Legislature Chairman Russ Johnson
said, “I'm ecstatic that Sure-Lock Industries, LLC will be
relocating its facility right here in Oswego County. In only nine
short years, Sure-Lock Industries has demonstrated its prominence
in the pre-finished flooring industry with a promising future for
major success in its sights. Oswego County welcomes this good news,
and we will continue to extend the support necessary to help make
Sure-Lock Industries a long-time member of our County's business
community.”
