Elected OOC Board President
OSWEGO, NY--At
its annual meeting last month, the Operation Oswego County (OOC)
board of directors elected Laser Transit Ltd. CEO and owner George
Joyce as its new president.
Laser Transit is located in
Lacona and employs 46 people. Founded in 1995, the company operates
200,000 square
feet of warehousing for distribution services to manufacturing,
wholesale and retail service sectors. Laser Transit also serves
local and long haul transportation needs with a fleet of trucks
and logistic and intermodal services. Fleet operations annually
deliver approximately 10,000 truckload shipments throughout the
United States and Ontario, Canada. Oswego County clients include
Alcan Rolled Products Company and Felix Schoeller Technical Papers.
As former operations manager
for Lake Shore Transportation Lines, Joyce was also involved in
the Lakespan ferry venture at the Port of Oswego which operated
in the early 80s between Oswego and Oshawa, Ontario. Lake Shore
operated a significant intrastate trucking business which moved
as many as 150 truckloads per day in the 1980s and early 90s and
served major manufacturers throughout central and western New York.
Joyce has also been employed
by Oswego Warehousing Inc. in Oswego since 1972. Oswego Warehousing
services include repacking/palletizing, stretch wrapping, containerization,
cold and seasonal storage, public/contract warehousing. The company
has recently increased the scope of its services to include the
winter storage of boats and motor homes.
As incoming president of OOC,
Joyce identified three areas he plans to focus on during his tenure.
“Essentially, I have three
areas where I feel OOC must succeed. They include continuing to
create a better match between what our county has to offer and what
prospective employers need; ensuring our message reaches the right
audiences, clearly communicating our strengths, our advantages,
and our commitment; and to expand agency resources that are necessary
and essential to effectively carry out our economic development
mission,” Joyce explained.
In addition to OOC, Joyce’s
other community and business affiliations include Oswego Hospital
as board of trustees’ president; Oswego Health Properties
as board vice president; Oswego Health board of directors; Seneca
Hill Manor board of directors; The Oswego College Foundation board
of directors; and PathFinder Bank board of directors. He is also
a member of the New York Motor Truck Association, the Greater Oswego
Chamber of Commerce and the Warehousing Education and Research Council.
“George’s broad-based
experience and expertise in transportation, warehousing, distribution
and third party logistics is truly an asset to Operation Oswego
County and our business community. He has been an integral player
and our ‘transportation guru’ in dealing with potential
business prospects,” said L. Michael Treadwell, CEcD, executive
director of OOC.
“With George’s leadership,
we will continue to establish and implement sound and effective
economic development strategies to enhance the economic health and
vitality of our community.”
In addition to Joyce, the new
slate of officers elected to the board includes Michael Pollock
of Fulton Savings Bank, vice president; Gregory Kreis of Oswego
County National Bank, treasurer; and Nancy Bellow of SUNY Oswego
Center for Business and Community Development, secretary.
Re-elected OOC board members
include Nancy Bellow; Bonnie Bostian, Entergy Nuclear Northeast;
Thomas Greco, Fulton Savings Bank; Dee Heckethorn, retired banking
and real estate; Alan Horna, Oswego Wire; George Joyce; Edward Mervine,
PathFinder Bank; Michael Pollock; Michael Quenville, Key Bank; and
David Vickery, Vickery Insurance.
Since 1953, Operation Oswego
County, a private, non-profit organization working to enhance and
protect the economic climate of Oswego County, has delivered $2.4
billion in investments and created or retained more than 15,000
jobs.
