Jan. 12, 2004: Futurist Ed Barlow
to Headline Economic and Workforce Summit February 4
The Workforce Development Board of Oswego
County (WDB) and SUNY Oswego will co-host a public issues forum
titled “Economic and Workforce Issues: Today and Tomorrow.”
The forum will be held in the Hewitt Union
Ballroom on the SUNY Oswego campus, Wednesday, Feb. 4 from 8 a.m.
to 3 p.m. There is no registration fee, but reservations are required.
Nationally known futurist Ed Barlow, president
of Creating the Future, Inc., will discuss how economic, demographic,
science and technology influences are converging and how communities
can leverage this information to their competitive advantage. Other
speakers will present information on the local workforce, economic
development and education.
This interactive forum will also provide
participants an opportunity to discuss how the various influences
affect their particular industry, and how local economic and workforce
development agencies can support their needs.
“We are excited about this opportunity to bring Ed Barlow
to Oswego County,” said Nancy Bellow, WDB Director. “The
afternoon workshop will give local business leaders an opportunity
to help shape the workforce development direction for Oswego County.”
The WDB is a team of private and public sector
partners who share a common goal of promoting local workforce development
in Oswego County by advancing an integrated workforce development
system, responding to employers’ needs and maximizing the
career potential of job seekers in the county.
