Jan. 12, 2004: OOC Receives Economic
Development Grant from Niagara Mohawk
Operation Oswego County recently received
a $10,000 grant from Niagara Mohawk’s Cooperative Business
Recruitment Economic Development Program for assistance toward marketing
Oswego County’s industrial parks.
The funding will be used to promote industrial
park assets and economic development incentives in Oswego County
with brochures, national advertising and Internet marketing.
Operation Oswego County operates three industrial
parks in Oswego County including the Oswego County Industrial Park
off NYS Route 481 in the town of Schroeppel, the Lake Ontario Industrial
Park in the city of Oswego and the Airport Industrial Park in the
town of Volney. OOC also works to promote development of privately
owned industrial parks such as the Riverview Business Park in the
town of Volney, the Independence Industrial Park in the town of
Scriba, as well as the Rich Industrial Park in the town of Hastings.
The agency is also involved with the continuing development of a
100-acre Minetto Canal Park at the former Columbia Mills Brownfield
site in the town of Minetto.
“Because of the many assets of our
industrial parks including strategic locations, existing infrastructure,
economic benefits and incentives, and varying parcels and buildings,
Oswego County is able to be more competitive when attracting prospective
businesses,” said L. Michael Treadwell, CEcD, OOC executive
director.
“This funding will help market our
industrial parks in order to provide new and increased job opportunities
and add to the variety of products and services available to county
residents. We appreciate Niagara Mohawk’s commitment and continued
partnership in fostering economic development in Oswego County.”
The Cooperative Business Recruitment Program
provides incremental matching funds for joint marketing and sales
initiatives between Niagara Mohawk, a National Grid company, and
regional or local economic development organizations.
“Our Cooperative Business Recruitment
program is one of several economic development programs created
as a part of our NYS Public Service Commission-approved Economic
Development Fund,” said Marilyn Higgins, Niagara Mohawk’s
vice president for economic development. “The fund provides
up to $12.5 million of annual funding for economic development activities
designed to improve the economy of the Niagara Mohawk/National Grid
service area.”
“We think that helping successful groups
like Operation Oswego County to market shovel-ready sites is a worthwhile
use of this funding,” Higgins said.
